Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Smile City Dental

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) helps eligible Canadians access essential dental care at little to no cost. At Smile City Dental, we proudly accept CDCP patients and are happy to help you understand how the plan works and what it covers.

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The CDCP is a federally funded program designed to reduce the cost of dental care for Canadian residents who do not have dental benefits and have an annual family net income under $90,000.

The plan covers a wide range of services, including preventive, diagnostic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontal, and oral surgery care.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

  • Not have access to dental insurance
  • Have a family net income under $90,000
  • Be a Canadian resident who filed a tax return the previous year

To stay covered, members need to reapply every year before June 1st. Missing this deadline can result in a gap in your coverage, so we recommend marking your calendar ahead of time.

How Do I Get Coverage?

You can apply through the online portal, or by phone at 1-833-537-4342 (TTY: 1-833-677-6262) if you are unable to apply online.

Once you apply, Health Canada will confirm your eligibility and share your information with Sun Life to enrol you in the plan. Within three months, you will receive a welcome package from Sun Life that includes information about the CDCP, your member card, and your individual coverage start date.

You can learn more about eligibility, coverage, and how to apply on the Government of Canada’s CDCP website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not always. Your coverage level depends on your income, and if a provider charges more than the CDCP fee guide rate, you are responsible for the difference.

Basic services are covered for all eligible members, but some treatments require pre-authorization, and certain services may not be covered at all. Visit the CDCP website for full details on what is included.

Coverage begins on the start date included in your welcome package. To keep your coverage active, you will need to reapply each year before June 1st.
